We had our first RVJG event of the year last Wednesday -the Spring Thaw event. Due to covid it was postponed about a month from its usual date. The delay and unprecedented hot weather left no doubt that winter was indeed over! We had an incredible turnout for this event particularly considering the temperature reached 36 C that day. I want to congratulate all 43 of the 48 kids that signed up who played. Due to the extreme heat, we turned the event into a 9-hole game but the kids who wanted to play 18 holes could do so on their own. 11 of the 43 kids braved the heat and played the full 18 holes! There were two teams tied with a score of 24 ( 3 under par ) in this Texas scramble format event. The winner was determined using the countback method.
The prize winners in the event were:
1st place (24) $25 each: Raul II Rojas , Jack Dawson, Casy Fedynak, Connor Verhage
2nd place (24) $20 each: Logan Baich, Joshua Richlark, Zack Grant
3rd place (25) $15 each: Joshua Wiebe, Finn MacDonald, Van MacDonald
Closest to pin ( #2 hole) $25: Corbin Knock
Longest putt ( #9 hole) $25: Judah Wurtz
Draw prizes: Keisha Verhage, Carter Veenstra, Jett Zubko, Finn MacDonad
The draw prize bag included two sleeves of balls, golf towel, bag tag and tees - all with the new RVJG logo.
Thanks to all those who were able to come out to this event. It was so nice to see all the new faces as well as those more familiar. I look forward to another great turnout at our next event at Victoria GC on July 16. Info for this event is on the website.
